Enhance Your Sexual Pleasure: Discover the Power of Your Pelvic Floor

Posted May 17, 2023| by hina SHARE

Sexual pleasure is an essential part of human life, and the climax of sexual experiences is often the most enjoyable moment.

decreased sexual pleasure

Many factors can impact our ability to reach this peak, such as hormones, emotions, past experiences, beliefs, and use of certain medications, alcohol, or drugs. But have you considered the role of your pelvic floor in your ability to experience sexual fulfillment?

The pelvic floor is a group of muscles at the bottom of the pelvis that play a crucial role in urinary, bowel, and sexual functions.

These muscles stabilize the core, spine, and hips, and support the internal organs (bladder, uterus, rectum). The pelvic floor has both involuntary and voluntary control, and its strength and coordination are essential for optimal functioning.

During sexual experiences, the pelvic floor muscles contract involuntarily, contributing to the pleasurable sensations that we feel. Adequate pelvic floor strength and coordination are crucial for improving blood circulation and enhancing the sensations felt during these experiences. The muscles that tighten the vaginal (for women) or anal openings (both men and women) contract tighter, which increases the sensations felt. Coordination, or the pelvic floor’s ability to contract and relax when it needs to, is also important.

However, it is not uncommon for individuals, regardless of their gender, to struggle with pelvic floor dysfunction, which can impact their ability to experience sexual fulfillment. Approximately 40% of females and males struggle with proper kegel exercises, which can impact coordination. Moreover, tight pelvic floor muscles do not necessarily indicate strength and can actually cause decreased sexual pleasure. Excessive pelvic floor strengthening can exacerbate tightness and worsen one’s ability to feel fulfilled.

If you suspect that your decreased ability to experience sexual fulfillment is due to pelvic floor dysfunction, it is essential to consult with a pelvic floor physical therapist. This health professional can evaluate and assess the underlying causes of decreased sexual pleasure and develop an individualized treatment plan that addresses these underlying issues.

Pelvic floor physical therapy focuses on addressing muscle tightness and weakness, improving coordination, and enhancing blood flow to the pelvic floor muscles. This treatment may involve a combination of exercises, manual therapy, and biofeedback to retrain the pelvic floor muscles and improve the sensations felt during sexual experiences.

In conclusion, if you are struggling with decreased sexual pleasure, regardless of your gender, it may be time to check your pelvic floor health. Pelvic floor dysfunction can significantly impact your ability to feel fulfilled during sexual experiences, and consulting with a pelvic floor physical therapist can help address these underlying issues and improve your overall experience.
